Indian Child Welfare

Mission

The Indian Child Welfare (ICW) Dept. provides services to assist Stockbridge-Munsee families and to ensure that the Nation’s children live in safe and healthy environments. The ICW Dept. takes an active role in these cases with a variety of outreach services and / or referrals to beneficial services that are right for each family in need. The ICW Dept. works closely with state and county agencies, as well as with other Tribal departments to provide education and community prevention services to families for their continued progress and stabilization. While family reunification and stabilization are always the primary goals with Indian Child Welfare cases, at times reunification may be judged by a court to not be in the best interest of the children or parents. As such, family, extended family and tribal members are looked to for the care of these children.

The ICW Dept. also assists with the location of placement alternatives for youth that follow ICWA preferences. The ICW Dept. is actively involved with public and private child welfare agencies to aid in locating both foster and permanent homes for children. There is an active need for Native American foster and adoptive homes. For referrals or inquiries please contact (715) 793-4580.
